ปรัชญาการศึกษา มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์

มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ก่อตั้งขึ้นตามนโยบายการพัฒนาภาคใต้ โดยมีเจตนารมณ์ตั้งแต่แรกเริ่มที่จะให้เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยหลักของภาคใต้ ทำหน้าที่ผลิตบัณฑิต วิจัย บริการวิชาการและทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรม การจัดการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยจึงมุ่งเน้นที่การพัฒนาคนเพื่อให้เป็นกำลังหลักของสังคม และยึดตามแนวทางการจัดการศึกษาของชาติที่มุ่งเน้นผู้เรียนเป็นศูนย์กลาง

ปรัชญาการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ จึงเป็นการจัดการศึกษาตามแนวทาง พิพัฒนาการนิยม (Progressivism) คือ การพัฒนาผู้เรียนในทุกด้าน เพื่อให้พร้อมที่จะอยู่ในสังคมได้อย่างมีความสุข และปรับตัวได้ดีตามสถานการณ์ที่เปลี่ยนไป โดย ใช้กระบวนการจัดการเรียนรู้เป็นเครื่องมือในการพัฒนาผู้เรียนโดยให้ผู้เรียนเป็นศูนย์กลาง ของการเรียนรู้ และพัฒนาจากความต้องการของผู้เรียน ผ่านกระบวนการแก้ปัญหาและค้นคว้าด้วยตนเอง กระบวนการที่ต้อง ลงมือปฏิบัติทั้งในและนอกห้องเรียน ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การเรียนรู้ที่ยั่งยืน และจากแนวคิดที่ว่าการพัฒนาคือการเปลี่ยนแปลง การเรียนรู้จึงไม่ได้หยุดอยู่เพียงภายในมหาวิทยาลัยแต่จะดำเนินไปตลอดชีวิต การจัดการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยจึงมุ่งเน้นถึง การเรียนรู้ตลอดชีวิต ด้วย

จากหลักการดังกล่าวข้างต้นนำสู่ การจัดการศึกษาที่มุ่งเน้นผลลัพธ์ (Outcome Based Education) โดยการพัฒนาหลักสูตร กระบวนการจัดการเรียนรู้ ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเชื่อว่าสามารถตอบสนองหลักการดังกล่าวได้ คือ การจัดการเรียนรู้ ที่ ใช้กิจกรรมหรือการปฏิบัติ (Active learning) ที่หลากหลาย โดยเฉพาะ การใช้ปัญหาเป็นฐานในการเรียนรู้ (Problem-based Learning) การใช้โครงงานเป็นฐาน (Project-based Learning) และการเรียนรู้โดยการบริการสังคม (Service Learning) และยึดพระราชปณิธานของสมเด็จพระบรมราชชนก “ขอให้ถือประโยชน์ของเพื่อนมนุษย์เป็นกิจที่หนึ่ง” เป็นแนวทางในการดำเนินการ อ่านเพิ่มเติม

PSU philosophy

Prince of Songkla University (PSU) was established under the Southern Development Plan policy with the intention to become the leading university in the southern region of Thailand, in terms of delivering graduate students, research, and academic services, whilst appreciating and maintaining arts and culture. The university’s educational management aims to develop graduate students empowering the country, and to adhere to a national educational approach that focuses on learner-centered education.

The educational philosophy of Prince of Songkla University is based on progressivism, the development of learners in all aspects, fostering social integration and adaptability. PSU believes that treating students through learner-centered education entails thoughtful consideration of various learner needs through the process of problem-solving and self-researching processes, and taking action inside and outside the classroom. Putting these ideas into action effectively results in sustainable learning approach, and forms the underlying basis of dynamic development. PSU also holds the notion that learning does not stop past university education, but continues throughout life. Accordingly, the educational management of the university aims to provide students with a thorough understanding and appreciation of lifelong learning.

The above-mentioned principles form the basis of outcome-based education, curriculum development, and various learning management processes, including active learning, which means learning from a variety of activities and actions; problem-based learning, which describes learning based on problem-solving through case studies; project-based learning, which refers to learning based on assignments and assessments; and service learning, which means education through serving the community.
